We need teams of hearty, reliable volunteers before, during and after the festival to make sure that each space is set up and broken down at the end of the event. If you can move and lift heavy things, and don't mind getting your hands dirty, this is a great way to be in the mix and see what goes into event production for a film festival. You’ll work directly with the AFI Docs production team. Volunteer must wear and closed toe shoes. Needed Availability: July 18 - July 21

RELEASE AND WAIVER OF LIABILITY FOR AFI VOLUNTEERS

This Release and Waiver of Liability (this “Release”) is executed on the date of this application, by and between American Film Institute and AFI DOCS Film Festival, and their respective directors, officers, employees, representatives, sponsors, and agents (collectively, “AFI”), on the one hand, and  myself (“Volunteer”) on the other.

The Volunteer desires to work as a volunteer for AFI and engage in the activities related to being a volunteer for AFI DOCS Film Festival (the “Activities”).  Volunteer understands that the Activities may include working in AFI offices and in event venues, driving and delivery using Volunteer’s own vehicle, lifting heavy objects, and staffing and participating in events.  Volunteer hereby freely, voluntarily, and without duress executes this Release under the following terms:

Code of Conduct:  Volunteer agrees to consume no alcohol nor other drugs during the time spent volunteering for the Activities.  Volunteer agrees that Volunteer’s badge and other AFI identification (such as a uniform or other item of clothing denoting Volunteer’s position as a volunteer for the Activities as may be provided by AFI) will be removed when Volunteer attends or participates in any AFI events or activities as a guest.  Volunteer agrees not to solicit or promote in any way to any guests attending the Activities.  AFI understands the celebratory nature of the Activities and encourages everyone to have fun and participate when appropriate.  However, in the event that policies are broken, at the discretion of AFI management, volunteer privileges can be changed or revoked at any time and Volunteer will be escorted off the premises.

Assumption of the Risk:  Volunteer understands that the Activities may be hazardous to the Volunteer.  Volunteer hereby expressly and specifically assumes all risks and dangers of the Activities and all responsibility for any and all losses, damages, and/or injuries, whether caused in whole or in part by the negligence or other conduct of AFI or any other person.

Release and Waiver:  Volunteer does hereby release and forever discharge and hold harmless AFI and its parents, subsidiaries and affiliated companies, successors, sponsors, licensees and assigns and their respective officers, directors, employees and agents from any and all liability, claims, and demands of whatever kind or nature, either in law or in equity, which arise or may hereafter arise from Volunteer’s Activities with AFI.  Volunteer hereby waives protections afforded by any jurisdiction that provide that a general release shall not extend to claims that do not exist or are unknown or unsuspected at the time the release is executed.  Volunteer understands that this Release discharges AFI from any liability or claim that the Volunteer may have against AFI with respect to any bodily injury, personal injury, illness, death, or property damage that may result from the Volunteer’s Activities with AFI, whether caused by the negligence of AFI or its officers, directors, employees, or agents or otherwise.  Volunteer also understands that AFI does not assume any responsibility for or obligation to provide financial assistance or other assistance, including but not limited to medical, health, or disability insurance in the event of injury or illness.

Medical Treatment: Volunteer does hereby release and forever discharge AFI from any claim whatsoever which arises or may hereafter arise on account of any first aid, treatment, or service rendered in connection with the Volunteer’s Activities with AFI.

Volunteer understands and acknowledges that he/she may decline any volunteer role or position at any time if he/she feels such role or position presents a risk to health or safety or for any other reason.  Volunteer agrees to advise AFI of any preexisting health, medical, or other conditions that would preclude involvement in any Activities.  Volunteer acknowledges that AFI staff are not permitted to administer medication.

Insurance:  Volunteer understands that AFI does not carry or maintain health, medical, disability, or automobile insurance for any Volunteer.  Each Volunteer is expected and encouraged to obtain his or her own health, medical and automobile insurance coverage.

Photographic Release:  Volunteer does hereby grant and convey unto AFI all rights, title, and interest in any and all photographic images and video or audio recordings made by AFI during the Volunteer’s Activities with AFI, including, but not limited to, any royalties, proceeds or other benefits derived from such photographs or recordings.  Volunteer also agrees that the original and duplicate copies of any video and/or audio recordings of Volunteer’s participation in the Activities may be added to the collection of the recorded guest lectures of AFI, available to the public for viewing and display in the Louis B. Mayer Library or elsewhere.  Volunteer hereby waives any right of inspection or approval of such photographic images and recordings.

Other:  Volunteer expressly agrees that this Release is intended to be as broad and inclusive as permitted by the laws of the State of California and that this Release shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with the laws of the State of California.  Volunteer agrees that in the event that any clause or provision of this Release shall be held to be invalid by any court of competent jurisdiction, the invalidity of such clause or provision shall not otherwise affect the remaining provisions of this Release which shall continue to be enforceable.  The venue for any dispute that arises hereunder shall be the State of California.
